Vendor program design

Vendor financing programs vs. captive finance companies

Distinguish a referral or vendor financing relationship from an owned captive finance company before promoting customer equipment financing.

A referral program does not create a captive

A captive finance company is generally a financing business owned by or associated with a manufacturer or seller to support its sales. A vendor referring customers to an independent financing partner has a different role. Adding finance messaging to a website does not establish an owned finance company.

Define what the vendor actually does: introduce the customer, collect project information, assist with supplier documentation, or undertake another activity. The legal and operational review should address that conduct and any compensation rather than rely on a product label.

Agree the customer journey

Identify who explains the financing product, receives the application, performs assessment, communicates a decision, issues an offer, and signs the financing contract. Document what happens when an inquiry is incomplete, duplicate, rejected or withdrawn.

Agree how a vendor is paid after delivery and acceptance, and how cancellations, substitutions and disputes are handled. Do not advertise immediate approval or unconditional supplier payment unless the claim is supported by the actual arrangement.

Make partner identity and incentives clear

Explain who provides any financing and whether referral compensation or customer fees apply. A comparison claim requires an actual comparison process; a relationship with one provider should not be described as searching the whole market.

Branding and co-branded materials require an agreed basis. Leaseworld's introduction service does not imply that a vendor owns a finance company, that Leaseworld underwrites credit, or that every applicant has access to the same financing structures.

Begin with one defined equipment journey

Choose a clearly described equipment package and map its documents, acceptance milestones, recipients and responsibilities. A small, explicit process is easier to evaluate than a vague promise to finance everything the vendor sells.
